« Women from working-class backgrounds in the arts sector are less likely to feel comfortable being themselves at work than other demographic groups, figures from Arts Professional’s Arts Pay Survey reveal.
Only around a third of working-class women respondents said they always feel comfortable being themselves at work, compared with around 45% of women overall, and 55% of all men.
Working-class women were among the demographic groups most likely to report never, rarely or sometimes feeling comfortable compared with around three-fifths of LGBTQ+ arts professionals and just under half of global majority respondents.
The findings are the latest to be shared from this year’s Pulse survey, which was last run by Arts Professional and Baker Richards in 2022. Notably, 75% of all respondents to this year’s survey identified as female, with a further 22% describing their gender as male and 2% identifying as non-binary.
