E já que Luís Miguel Cintra, falou de Molière, visitemos a «sua casa». Sobre a presente temporada:
«(...) The repertoire of the Comédie-Française regularly expands to include new plays and has never been confined to a single literary canon. For more than three centuries it has opened up to dramatic works that reflect their time. Our aim therefore is not to mark a specific territory, but to explore them all.
The new season is the expression of this flexibility and necessary curiosity. We will produce plays that are unjustly forgotten or curiously absent from the repertoire as well as some works that call on performance techniques that are less customary on our stages. I know from experience that a successful production is rarely the result of a commission, but originates in the encounter between an artist and a work, an old obsession or an oblique interpretation. This is something I am always sensitive and attentive to because it is the sure sign of an enlightened reading. Great foreign directors will rub shoulders with young artists, founding fathers and fellow travellers, multiplying and confronting methods and perspectives. Showcasing this wealth will require all the energy and commitment of the teams working behind the curtain every day to ensure that it is raised nearly eight hundred times a year.
While it is our desire to straddle the infinite spectrum of the verb and its incarnations, the permanence of the Comédie-Française also stems from its ability to follow the meanders of our common history. At a time when fears and extremes seem to feed off each other a little more every day, the virtue of theatre is to place us before our contradictions and to remind us of the lessons of History, but without didacticism or heavy-handedness. Theatre merely reworks the complexity of our world and our natures, while, without judgment but with relentless vigour and joy, holds up a mirror to us that we sometimes wish were more distorted(...)».
